Lakhani Coaching is actively seeking inspirational coaches who are experts in their field.

More than anything else, our instructors act as ambition role models. Seasoned experts in their areas of instruction, our coaches hail from the best universities in the world, have scored in the 99th percentile on standardized tests, and possess as many as seventeen years experience teaching in a one-on-one setting.

We're looking for expert instructors who love to inspire young people and who have at least three years teaching or tutoring experience. This is not an entry-level role.

Music Theory Coach (Jazz)

Required Instructional Competencies: Conservatory Theory Examinations (Jazz)

Candidates must be able to prepare undergraduate conservatory applicants for comprehensive theory, ear training, and harmony examinations, including the following assessed components:

Theory Examination: Ear Training & Rhythm

Oral Examination Preparation

  • Sight-sing a simple melodic line accurately using fixed-do or equivalent systems

  • Sing standard jazz four-note arpeggios (ascending and descending)

  • Guide students in improvised vocal performance over:

    • Scales

    • Simple cadences

    • Common jazz chord progressions

  • Coach vocal improvisation using play-along and accompaniment recordings

Written Examination Preparation

  • Train students to transcribe aural excerpts without instrumental aid, including:

    • Melody

    • Harmony

    • Rhythm

    • Metre

    • Formal structure

  • Develop strategies for accurate transcription using headphones and recorded playback, as used in exam conditions

Theory Examination: Harmony

  • Teach functional harmonic analysis in jazz and tonal contexts

  • Train students to identify piano voicings by ear and translate them accurately into chord symbols

  • Develop fluency in scale recognition, including major, minor, modal, and jazz-related scales

  • Coach students to harmonize an 8-bar melody using stylistically appropriate jazz chord symbols
